About Bernie's Freesources

Bernie's Freesources has one goal in mind: to increase accessibility of higher education application and preparatory resources for all students. To this end, Bernie's Freesources is both a) a free guide for free (or less expensive than the standard) resources for medical school and law school and b) a free guide to costs on the journey to higher education.

Zach Bernstein

Founder; Bernie's Freesources Medical School Guide Director

Zach obtained his bachelor's degree in Neuroscience (with Honors) and a minor in Business from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Since graduating college, Zach has worked as an Associate Researcher and Lab Manager in the Upper Extremity and Nerve Laboratory in the Department of Orthopaedics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He took the MCAT in June 2020 and applied to medical school in the 2021 application cycle. Zach will be attending the University of Emory School of Medicine in the class of 2025.

(Zach here) Studying for the MCAT intimidated me at first. I didn't know where to start; I couldn't afford any of the traditional resources from test prep companies and that was stressful for me. But, I don't want it to be for you.

In the two years between graduating college and taking the MCAT, I indulged in every free online resource I could scavenge-- Reddit, YouTube, Student Doctor Network, etc.-- to study for the MCAT while working a full-time job. I discovered a whole world of free online resources that I never knew existed and that took time to uncover. With these resources, I was able to spend $0 on content review and use the remains of my budget to purchase practice exams, which I believe is where money is best spent for preparing for the MCAT, not on test prep companies courses or non-question material. I want to share what I found with you all.

With Bernie's Freesources, my hope is to help you discover these "freesources" in order to save you from the time-consuming process of searching for them (that I went through). I want to save you valuable time and money in your personal quest to ace the MCAT. I want to decrease the financial burden of acing the MCAT. And ultimately, I want to help your dreams of becoming a physician turn into a reality. If this site helps just one person, it will be a success in my mind.

Victor has a passion for advancing educational opportunities for those from underprivileged backgrounds, and spent his summer prior to entering law school as a remote ACT tutor for the Boys and Girls Club. Having seen firsthand the economic barriers inherent to the law school application process (application fees, costs associated with the LSAT, essay consultants, etc), he is determined to make the process more accessible for prospective law students.
