What
Our first project is the Neurosurgery Residency Interview Support Fund (NRISF).
This fund will aim to raise at least $10,000 in order to give out charitable donations in $1,000 award increments to Neurosurgery Residency applicants to help cover the cost of their neurosurgery interview.
Why
Started by a Mother (i.e. Dura Mater) and her son, an incoming neurosurgery resident, who saw first-hand the prohibitive cost of interviewing for neurosurgery residency.
There is a huge financial barrier to attending interviews, often costing $400-800 per interview.
With an estimated average residency interviews of 10, that would lead to $4,000-8,000. However, many applicants have closer to 20 interviews, often costing more than $10,000+++ per interview cycle.
